Finished Object Friday is brought to you by Tami’s Amis and Other Creations.

Finally, I finished the bridesmaid shawl meant for the wedding itself (not a gift shawl)!

This shawl took me a lot longer than it should have simply because I didn’t read the instructions for the bind off before I bound off. It called for doubling the yarn and doing a bind off that was similar but not quite the same as one I’d done before. So of course I didn’t double the yarn and I didn’t do the new bind off correctly, and then the points wouldn’t block into the shawl!

So I painstakingly undid the bindoff and re-bound off properly, and after that it was quite obliging when I went to block it.

Also, you might notice that this is the first blog in which there are pictures of blocking on puzzle mats! I found really cheap mats meant to go under weight equipment, and I just put them bumpy side down. I got two of these for what the price of one set of kid’s play mats usually costs, so that means I have 24 of these bad boys to work with.

  1. Very very lovely. Also, I am jealous of anyone who has proper blocking mats.

(though I guess I have a spare room which I have called my blocking room, so I can’t complain too much…)

  2. Oh my gosh, I don’t even want to think about what it would take to undo a binding. You have more patience than I.

Your shawl did turn out beautifully. Best wishes at the wedding!

  3. The shawl is beautiful! Also, amazing idea for the blocking mats. Did you have to order them online, or did your walmart actually have them in store? I’ve been wanting blocking mats and was going to go stock Home Depot to see if they had any.

    • I ordered them online and had them shipped to my local store for free. It only took a couple days, too. Much less time than the site told me it would take.

  4. Beautiful shawl! might have to mark that one.

  5. Totally Gorgeous!

  6. Good job redoing the bind off. It blocked wonderfully and it looks very beautiful.

  7. You are going to have the best-dressed bridal party ever, clearly. This shawl is beautiful! The colour and all the shapes are so perfect together, and I’m glad you managed to frog and fix it so that it blocked cooperatively.

  8. So lovely! The extra work of correcting the bind off was worth it. It blocked out beautifully.

  9. Love it!! I love your blocking mats too!!

  10. The lace looks so phenomenal! and I’m such a sucker for yellow :)
