Squee Sunday

This is going to be a hard week to post something for, because all I have to squee about is getting in pieces of my mom’s birthday presents, which are all a secret, and a subject which is sure to attract spammers once the key words get circulated in search engines. But here it goes with the latter anyway. XD

Those of you who know me know that a few times a week I go to the PA Pole Academy for pole fitness classes. I just can’t bring myself to go to a gym and work out purely for working out and not actually learning to do anything nice, and I can’t take dance classes because my right knee is a mess and I have no stamina for cardio anymore. So when I heard that pole dancing classes for fitness existed, I was all for it.

The thing to remember is I don’t strip. I go to class in shorts and a tank top/sports bra, and I spend an hour trying to pick my 160lb self up in various ways, and then I spend two days sore as hell. And it feels great, because I’m working out and I’m learning to do neat things.

So what’s the squee? NEW FITNESS CLOTHING! Specifically, I picked up the Bad Kitty Iron X Pole Dancing Top. In case you care, I have the black one with red mesh.

The reason this top is awesome is because of how open it leaves my shoulders and back. It’s easier to learn moves when your clothes aren’t causing you to slide down the pole. If your skin is showing, you’re more likely to stick to the chrome. There’s a move I’m trying to learn called the shoulder mount, and wearing the Iron X this week has really helped (though I still can’t do it, I’m close).

Here’s a video so you can see what it is I’m trying to do.

What made you squee today?

  1. Holy crap!!! You’re really gonna do that???? I am impressed! Cute workout top!

    • It starts out seeming like an impossible task because at first you have no grip from being unable to wrap your thumbs (they would break). Eventually you manage to pick your feet off the ground for a moment, and from there they get higher and higher each time. Our instructors always say, “Pretend you’re pulling the pole over your shoulder.” That’s really what it is, but of course the pole will never pull over your shoulder, so YOU move instead.

I can get my legs up pretty high now but I can’t hold the position yet. I managed to touch a toe to the pole yesterday, though!

  2. Oh, I’m so envious! I love the idea of pole-dance classes—I know exactly what you mean about not being able to just go to a gym and work out. I walk and bike a lot, but I need to do something for all my non-leg bits…

Anyway, your skin-sticking, badass-looking new pole dance top is amazing, and I hope it keeps serving you well. :D

  3. I’m sorry this is late, we had no internet connection today. But I have awarded you an award!
