Rip It Good

Work in Progress Wednesday #19

This week I did a LOT of work on my heirloom afghan, which I’ve been using for my Thursday posts. Be sure to come check out the progress tomorrow!

No changes in what I’m reading this week, but I finished the audiobook for The Last Olympian and started listening to Ella Enchanted.

Since I’ve been trying to get the afghan done before Saturday, I only have a few other updates. My skirt is twice as wide as it was last week. The skirt row gauge is still really off, so I’m just going to repeat the row I’m on for more repeats than it says until it hits the width it’s supposed to be at, which is in the vicinity of 12 inches.

I also made 5 squares out of the leftover solid colors from my afghan. I suspect I’ll just dig through my stash for more acrylic and make them into a scrapghan. The squares are about 8 inches, so 16 of them would be baby-blanket sized when joined together, and 25 of them would make a decent throw. I’m using the book 200 Crochet blocks for blankets, throws, and afghans by Jan Eaton.

The patterns are really easy to follow, but it is way uncool to advertise 200 blocks and have a bunch of them end up being alternate color schemes. Also, if you’ll notice, one block up there is called “pastel delight’. My colors are not pastel. Why would you name something meant to be many colors after only certain colors? Just a pet peeve, I guess.

  1. Totally understand your peeve there, seems very strange to suggest that the block should be pastel colours! I like the granny with a twist block :)

    • I like that one and also the Daisy Chain one, but I guess it’s because I still had enough orange to make nicer blocks. I think Old Vienna will look much more awesome when it’s all attached in a blanket.

  2. I have that book and thought the same thing – there are only about 170 blocks and the others are just the same in different colourways. There are some nice ones in there though and yours look lovely – the daisychain is especially pretty.

  3. The squares look great! I can’t wait until you’re on the lace part of the skirt!

  4. I love the granny with a twist square.

  5. Loving the squares!!!! :D

  6. Oh I love the daisy chain and the granny with a twist. I also love the colours you have used. Lovely!

  7. I love the five squares. I think they’ll be a great part of a new scrapghan!

  8. I love scrapghans. I think they have more character. I’m partial to scrap quilts too.

  9. Love the fall colors in your squares (waaaaaaay better than pastel)! They’re making me crave apple cider for some reason…

  10. I was a little miffed at the “200 blocks (but some of them are just the same ones in different colours!)” thing, too. And I share your confusion about the “pastel delight” name, too. Your version is way more interesting than pastel, as far as I’m concerned. I also really like your “granny with a twist” square, I’ve been meaning to try that one.

  11. Daisy Chain is lovely. I’m glad I have the book by Jan Eaton too.
