Baby Blanket of Rassilon

I wonder what sort of evil powers it has?

Pattern: Doily of Rassilon by meredee
Yarn: Bernat Baby Sport Solid in Sweetgrass
Hook: 4.0 mm (G)

This is my first filet crochet piece.

In retrospect, I wish I’d done the big version of the chart, and with an I hook, so I could do a smaller border around the outside. I had chosen to do the version of filet crochet where each group of three is meshed together (for example two “blocks” is actually 5 stitches, instead of using 3 stitches per block) so it came out smaller than expected.

I realized I’d need a big edging to make this blanket big enough for swaddling. I went with the edging fromĀ Oops-A-Daisy from Leisure Arts #4623, Circular Baby Afghans, though I had to fudge the number of repeats to fit my smaller blanket. I think it works alright. :)

As for the Rassilon reference, you can check out the Wikipedia article to figure out just what sort of nerdiness I crocheted into this blanket. It’s very possible that the recipients of this blanket didn’t realize just how dorky it is, and may not even get the reference even if I point it out, but I’m amused and that’s really all that matters.
